According to Sri Swami Satchidananda, The goal of Yoga is to have a useful, easeful and peaceful life. This of course refers to all aspects of Yoga, not just Yoga class. One way to tap deeper into the study of Yoga, outside of class, is to develop your own asana and meditation practice at home.
To be honest. I would rather see my students practice 15 minutes per day at home than goto (1) 90 minute class once a week for their exercise. According to Yoga and Ayurveda, regularity is key to maintaining balance in our lives.
If we wait until we go to Yoga class to practice, we may be maintaining a dependency on our teacher and the group energy over time. When we cannot GET to Yoga class, we may feel stuck or upset that we do not have time for”ourselves.” Learning some basic practices of asana and meditation prepare us to be able to depend primarily on our ourselves as empowered , Self-directed beings. This, the door to an easeful, peaceful and useful life is now open.
